History was made on 29 June when the first competitive match ever to be played under cover at the historic Wimbledon tennis tournament took place in London, UK.rnA new £ 100 million retractable, concertina-design roof over therntournament's Centre Court is made of approximately 5200 m2 of Gore Tenara architectural fab-ric.W.L. Gore and Associates, the fabric's manufacturer, says Tenara was selected in part for its ability to let light pass through while offering reliable protection from the elements.rnThe roof comprises two styles of the fabric, the major part allowing 40% light transmission (Gore Tenara 4T40) and some allowing 20% (Gore Tenara 4T20). The two styles are precisely placed to prevent shadows or bright spots on the court.
