Nonwovens manufacturerrnPolymer Group Inc (PGI) is to close its plant in North Little Rock,Arkansas, USA, and to consolidate manufacturing operations at the facility with those at its operation in Benson, North Carolina, USA. Existing operations in North Little Rock are due to be phased out by the end of March 2010.rnThe company says that the changes are needed to increase efficiency and reduce costs in order to maintain its competitiveness in response to major global downturns in industrial markets.rnParts of PGI's hydroentangle-ment (spunlace) and fusible fibre businesses, along with some of the equipment, will be relocated to Benson. This will require investment to upgrade existing manufacturing capabilities so the company can meet developing market needs using its proprietary technology.
