Coating innovations and technologies for technical textiles formed the major part ofrndiscussions at the 5th European Coating Congress held at the University College ofrnGhent, Belgium (9-10 September 2009), reports Ian Holme.rnOrganized by the National Association ofTechnical Executives of theTextile Industry in Belgium (Unitex),which celebrated its first 50 years of existence on 16 October 2009, the main focus of the 5th European Coating Congress (Ghent, Belgium, 9-10 September 2009) was on innovations and technologies designed to improve or develop functionalities in order to expand the markets for coated textiles. Additionally, attention centred on developments that provide higher production flexibility for the economical manufacture of smaller batches, or led to faster production or decreased consumption of chemicals, energy and water, driving down costs and increasing global competitiveness.
