John McCurry casts his eye over three burgeoning US companies operating in the field of nanotechnology: NanoHorizons, APJeT and Nano-Tex. In doing so, he learns about their origins, their strategies and reveals some trends in developments. Textiles was one of the first sectors to enjoy success with nanotechnology, which continues to advance in various areas of our industry, mostly in apparel. Many of the current advances are the results of technology transfers from major research universities and, in at least one case, research and development from a major national laboratory in the USA. This article looks at some of the recent advances proffered by three companies in this rapidly growing field.
