From the Longitude 131° Resort in Ayers Rock, Australia, to the Millennium Dome in London, UK, the staff of Taiyo Membrane Corp are exploiting architectural membranes to create some of the most iconic structures in the world. One of the most interesting projects to date is the Longitude 131° Resort, for which the company (formerly known as Shade Structures Birdair) won an Award of Excellence in the Industrial Fabrics Association International's 2003 Achievement Awards (see also, Technical Textiles International, January/February 2004, pages 11-23). Taiyo Membrane says its approach to projects is to sit down with clients to design structures with maximum impact, functionality and durability. Consequently, the company from Eagle Farm, Queensland, Australia, has won many domestic and international awards for design, manufacturing and construction.
