A resurgence of interest in air-laid technology, and the introduction of new materials suitable for its use, raises speculation concerning wider markets for products manufactured on this nonwovens system, says Derek Ward. Global capacity for producing air-laid nonwovens has recently grown dramatically and is now in the region of 280 000 t a year. It has been estimated that around half of this output is produced in Western Europe; however, manufacturer's capacities are expanding rapidly on both sides of the Atlantic.
