In the first quarter (Q1) of 2019, financial year sales of the manufacturer of advanced materials and specialty additives Eastman Chemical Company, Kingsport, TIM/USA, fell by 8.7% to US$2.38 billion. In the segment Fibers, sales decreased by 13.1 % to $ 213 million. EBIT stood at $ 42 million (Q1/2018: $56 million) decreased primarily due to lower acetate tow sales volume, attributed to China trade-related issues and other customer buying patterns, as well as lower acetate tow selling prices.
