PASTA - integrating Platform for Advanced Smart Textile Applications

Overall goal of the project is to optimize the parameters of textile technologies (weaving and warp knitting) in combination with the conductive and commonly used insulating yarn materials (CO, PET, PA or others) to achieve a reliable and long lasting fabric as well as the best possible electrical characteristics over a large area. Therefore, different material data and samples were collected and first processing and parameter testing was done. The possibility of direct interconnection of orthogonal wiring by linking threads will be tested using different weave and warp knitting patterns later in different processing trials. In addition, areas/thread for interconnecting via gluing, extra stitching or crimping need to be foreseen on the fabric surface by special patterning developments of weavings and warp knittings based on common textile and conductive yarn materials. This paper describes the progress during the first term of the PASTA project (www.pasta-project.eu) referring to conductive and insulating yarn materials for textile processing.
