On December 19, 2008, Glanzstoff Austria GmbH, St. Polten/Austria, ceased production of textile and technical viscose filament yarns, leading to the loss of over 300 jobs. Only the administration office for the foreign plants of the Glanzstoff Group remain in Austria. In the Czech Republic, Glanzstoff Bohemia spol s.r.o., Lovosice, produces viscose tire cord yarns. In Belarus, Glanzstoff Austria founded a joint venture with Svetlogorsk Khimvolokno in spring 2008 for the production of technical viscose filament yarns (investment € 20 million). On January 10, 2008, a fire destroyed the exhaust air cleaning installation of the viscose plant. Thereafter, production was stopped for several months, and could only partially begin again in April 2008. For a continuation of fiber production, high investment in new exhaust air equipment and laborious state approval procedures would have been necessary.
