The US company Americhem Inc., Cuyahoga Falls/Ohio, a global provider of custom color and additive solutions for synthetic fibers and polymer-based products, recently introduced a full line of antimicrobial master-batches for synthetic fibers. Americhem has been active in antimicrobial masterbatches since 2003. One of the challenges with melt-spun antimicrobial additives has been achieving dispersion quality suitable for fine denier applications and lower abrasion. These challenges are resolved with the new line of antimicrobial masterbatches. They boast significant improvements in dispersion, lower abrasion and higher efficacy. These products are intended for use in fine denier polyester, nylon and polypropylene fibers. The high concentration of silver in antimicrobial masterbatches provides cost-ef-rnfective inhibitory activity against a wide-range of microorganisms including bacteria and fungi, among others. The new antimicrobials offer improved performance to a wide-array of markets and end-product applications including sports and performance apparel, health and home-care textiles (bedding and mattresses, upholstery, respiratory masks and uniforms), carpets and floorcoverings, shoes, filters, artificial turf. In addition to the new antimicrobial range, Americhem is also launching new flame-retardants, UV stabilizers and dye-enhancing products.rnAmerichem operates 6 manufacturing plants and representative sales offices in Mexico City and LuxembourgAA/estem Europe. Central Research & Development facilities and headquarters are located in Cuyahoga Falls/Ohio.
