In 2008, the global production of polyester textile yarns roughly stagnated at 17.1 million tons (-0.2%), and industrial filament yarns declined by 2.6% to almost 1.2 million tons.rnThe industrial PET yarn business has not only suffered from the downturn in the automotive industry but also from changing trade flows (Fig. 1). Although the global trade volume declined by 4.5% to 535,300 tons last year, PR China was able to boost its exports by 42% to 166,900 tons despite an increase in average prices of 3.6%, capturing 31% of world trade flows. Extraordinary growth in shipments has been observed to the countries (exports in 1,000 tons) shown in the Table 1.
