In 2007 the 6 Japanese spunbond producers Asahi Kasei, Toyobo, Toray, Mitsui, Unicel (Teijin) and Unitika manufactured a total of 88,000 tons of spunbond nonwovens and 3.36 billion m~2, according to figures from the Japan Chemical Fibers Association (JCFA), Tokyo/Japan. Polyester spunbond recorded the largest growth due to positive demand from the automotive and industrial sectors. Nylon spunbond production fell for the second consecutive year due to its high cost.
