The paper about 'The Needs of Society: A New Understanding of Transitions, Sustainability and Liveability" is interesting and well writtea It adds something to the dialogue. However, as a practitioner, I also have some doubts. I select two main concerns. The first concern is about the claim that we need a more sophisticated way of describing sustainability and liveability. The paper introduces the ERG Theory to meet this claim. The authors compare it to technological approaches and of course, when you compare a new concept to very limited 'models', you will always find an improvement In the Netherlands, in practice, we often use the Aspect Theory from Dooyeweerd, In my opinion, that is already very sophisticated. For introducing sustainability and liveability it offers a good base. I think the way ERG theory is introduced in the paper is very 'Deus ex Machina' and after reading I am not convinced we really need it.
