A look at America's future through the filters of the technological, organizational/institutional, and personal/individual perspectives points to glaring systemic challenges [1]. Each perspective reveals a salient driving force that has historically inspired and galvanized this society by providing ideals, goals, and a sense of communal bonding. Neil Postman terms such belief systems "gods," with each being defined by a distinctive myth or narrative. Worldwide, they include religions (Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, etc.), political ideologies (Communism, Fascism, Nazism, etc.), and other guiding creeds [2]. America has evolved as a well-balanced amalgam of three secular "gods": science/technology, democracy, and individualism.
