A LOOK INSIDE: MRI SHOWS THE DETAIL

摘要

Assessing the risks, financial costs, and advantages of medical technology is an important, complex task in today's health-oriented society. Although Standards for Technological Literacy (ITEA/ITEEA, 2000/2002/2007) emphasizes the need to understand medical technology (Standard #14) in order to make more informed decisions about its use, relatively few curriculum resources have been developed for the secondary TE classroom. As described in this manuscript, studying the principles of MRI technology can simultaneously further students' understandings for multiple topics-such as energy, information and communication, and technology assessment-and hone their problem-solving and design skills by engaging students in experimentation and engineering-design activities that address magnetism, magnetic resonance, and RF oscillating circuits. We invite others to integrate MRI systems into their curriculum in order to promote technological literacy.
