We all know what a wood pole Is; we see them all the time. The most common way to create a wood pole is to cut down a straight pine-type tree, strip it of branches and bark, dry it out, and then, under great pressure, cook a creosote mixture into the wood fibers. This traditional processing method usually preserves the wood for 40 years or longer. The technology to do this is commonly known, costs are cheap, and wood poles are plentiful. The nation's electric utilities have installed over 100 million wood poles to support electric and telephone wires.
