Mathematics, reading, and writing are considered basic skills that students must learn from kindergarten to high school (K-12) in the U.S. As students progress through the education pipeline, physical science courses are progressively introduced as required curriculum. Computer science (CS) is a subject that remains an optional course. With its relative unpopularity [27], CS is further marginalized in high schools.
