The world's top gadget show, CES, was as gadget-packed and lively as ever - well, almost. The first sign of recession taking its toll was an SMS from a friend who, to his shock, got a taxi in five minutes on day two, unthinkable in Las Vegas. The taxi driver spoke of hard times. And then he found the strip club half-empty, rare on weekends. This friend did not miss the crowds: he enjoyed CES, his stay on the strip, and the strip club. One man's misfortune is another's opportunity. With tough times hitting most industries-cars, electronics-buyers will have have a good time, because- Oops-that was a Honda dealer calling: There's a special offer on the Civic, bringing the entry model to a never-before price, goodies included. Yesterday the Toyota dealer left voice mail saying the Altis had a deal on... good thing I didn't buy in December. I think I'll wait a week or two for more calls...
