Canon's new compact laser printer LBP-5050 is one of the most silent laser printers that we have reviewed (the other being the Samsung ML-1630 monochrome). This white colored printer comes with two paper feeds, a tray cassette capable of holding upto 150 A4 sheets and a front slot for manual feed. The printer boots up and is ready to print in about 5 seconds; very impressive for a laser.rnIt can print up to 600 × 600 (dpi) resolution for mono and upto 9600 × 600 (dpi) for color prints. We tested the laser printer as per our standard benchmarks. Canon claims 8 ppm in color and 12 ppm in mono. All these claims hold true. It took 36 seconds to print an A4 size borderless color photo. What is impressive is the quality of prints. The photo prints were superb, with excellent detail, sharpness and natural colors. Color prints look great even with plain paper thanks to the special toner which coats the paper with a glossyrnfinish. The four separate toner cartridges don't come cheap. The MRPs for the cyan, magenta and yellow cartridges are Rs 4,395 each while the black costs Rs 4,995. Cost per B/W printrnworks out to be Rs 2 (5% ink coverage with 2300 page yield for the black cartridge), which is high. Cost per color print will be between Rs 6-10. The supplied software application is quite user friendly and provides lots of options.
