The first sign of the global recession making it into thernnerves of the interactive entertainment industry probably was the shutting down of Ensemble Studios. The guys at Ensemble were Gods when it came to creating long lasting and engrossing RTS titles: Age of Empires is an example. They were so good at it that the industry people started recognizing the studio as a strategy house. And of course, after playing through Halo Wars which is their final project, I was really baffled at the closure. Halo Wars is by no means perfect, but is one of the best RTS experiences ever created for console.rnThe most admirable quality of Halo Wars is its sheer simplicity. It does not offer oodles of content, but just enough to make the experience interesting. You won't find lots of alteration options such as modifier keys and non-mutable Al events. The game borrows several styling and play elements from StarCraft. Also, it relies heavily on players' strategy.
