Congress should set national broadband goals, unions and technology groups said in a letter to the House and Senate Commerce committees. They endorsed resolutions by Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., and Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Calif., that would set a goal for networks to provide broadband speeds of 10 Mbps by 2010 and 100 Mbps by 2015. SR-191 and HR-1292 call for legislation to promote those goals. "What we need is a national strategy and policy framework to provide a boost to these efforts and the 100 Megabit resolution in Congress is intended to jump- start that process," said Joe Savage, president of the Fiber-to- the-Home Council. That group signed the letter, as did TechNet, the Communications Workers of America, the Voice on the Net Coalition and the Information Technology Industry Council.
