摘要

A series of shifts in the ownership of Greece's largest telecoms operators is set to dramatically alter the landscape of the country's underdeveloped broadband market, according to local observers. The last few months have seen a number of buyouts, stake sales and capital increases that could radically alter the competitive positions of incumbent operator OTE and challengers Tellas and Forthnet. Analysts now expect that Weather Investments will soon move to integrate Tellas with its other Greek assets to create a larger group that could challenge Forthnet's position as Greece's second-largest operator. Last month, Weather, an investment vehicle of Egyptian businessman Naguib Sawiris and owner of Italian alternative operator Wind, completed takeovers of Greek mobile operator TIM and fixed/mobile provider Q-Telecom. The organisation is said to be in talks to buy the 49.9%-minus-one share in Tellas that it does not already own from local utility Public Power Corporation (PPC).
