Even though some enterprises have taken on the deployment of their own Ethernet transport networks, it's clear the enterprise market would rather outsource this function to a carrier. Despite this demand, carriers have been reluctant to scale their Ethernet deployments because of ongoing management costs and lack of a common standard. By adopting the emerging IEEE 802.3ah EFM (Ethernet in the first mile) standard, ADVA is betting that its FSP 150 (Fiber Services Platform) product suite will enable service providers to extend Ethernet services to a broader audience more cost effectively.
