Intranets have become a hot topic among corporate IT executives—and for good reason. Intranets (defined as application architectures that use Web technologies such as desktop browsers, TCP/IP, and HTML services across a corporate enterprise network) offer very appealing benefits. These benefits include platform-independent, enterprisewide access to applications and data; the ability to leverage existing resources across a variety of business requirements; and the potential to extend information resources outward to customers, suppliers, and other partners easily across Internet/extranet links.
