China's home textile industry that has suffered its first export decline (1.2%) in the first five months of this year has great growth potential; the difficulties it is facing now are temporary and they can, indeed, be overcome. Such is the reassuring message the chairman of the China Home Textile Association, Yang Zhaohua, conveyed during an exclusive interview. In fact, he says, "we can overcome any difficulty because we have yet to discover the opportunities." The industry suffered its first export decline - down 1.2% - during the first five months of this year, although shipments to the US were rising. What caused exports to drop was, mainly, the shrinking demand in the 28-member European Union market and in Japan. In such a situation, the steady growth of the US economy alone was not enough to match last year's 5% export growth, Mr Yang pointed out.
