Three-dimensional (3D) printing technology which allows printing out the physical model of a product within a matter of hours at relatively low cost is getting popular in the footwear industry. Its attraction mainly is that a physical shoe sample is viewable for discussion between the designer and the manufacturer, and it eliminates the need for a shoe mould for designing the product. Footwear brands Nike and Clarks are already making use of the technology in designing.
