Trade winds from Sri Lanka are shifting steadily toward a new direction. Figures now available for 2013 exports from Sri Lanka Customs show that garment shipments are going increasingly to markets other than Sri Lanka's traditional outlets - the European Union and the United States. In 2010, for example (see Table- Ⅰ), the EU took US$1.7 billion worth of Sri Lankan garments or nearly 54% of the country's to- tal garment exports while the US took $ 1.4 billion (just over 43%) and the rest of the world $103 million or a little over 3%.
