Bangladesh, a least developed country (LDC), has long been asking the United States for duty-free market access for all its exports including garments; but with no success. Now, following the World Trade Organization's ninth ministerial conference in Bali, Indonesia, last December, it is pinning its hopes on speedy conclusion of WTO's Doha Round. The Doha Round launched at WTO's fourth ministerial in 2001 was to improve the trading prospects of developing countries by revising trade rules and lowering trade barriers. The negotiations, nevertheless, remained inconclusive over the past 13 years due to protracted arguments which sometimes brought it to the brink of collapse.
