While the continuing global economic uncertainties and price inflation are leading apparel importers to turn towards low-cost countries such as Bangladesh, Vietnam and Cambodia, Sri Lanka's textile sector exports have increased by almost 25% last year from its 2010 level. The reason, says the president of the Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF), is the high quality service that Sri Lankan manufacturers offer. Quality service, he explains, has not only enabled Sri Lankan manufacturers to retain their clients but also to attract new buyers. As a result, the country' s textile sector exports last year climbed to US$ 4.2 billion from $3.4 billion the year before. This is first time that Sri Lanka's textile and apparel exports passed the US$ 4 billion mark. The country was aiming to reach this high level only by the end of 2015. The textile sector exports last year accounted for 52.4% of the country's industrial exports ($8 billion) and 40% of total exports ($10.49 billion).
