The clothing industry is most sensitive to global economic changes. This was clearly seen at the 19th summer edition of the Hong Kong Fashion Week. Hong Kong's total export of clothing and clothing accessories in 2011 had a moderate increase of 2%, less than in 2010 when it picked up 5.6% increase after a drastic reduction of 18.8% the year before. However this mild positive trend was dashed in 2012 by 7.8% decrease in the first five months of the year. Hong Kong's two biggest markets, EU and the US, took the hardest hit, down by 17.8% and 3.9%, respectively.
