摘要

Now that China is estimated to hold six million tons of cotton in stocks, it is unlikely to continue importing and adding to the state reserve. That could result in lower world prices for cotton. Cotton is rapidly .losing it share of the market in China to polyester and rayon while mill use of cot ton is either rising or holding steady in other large countries like India, Pakistan, Turkey and the United States, according to the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC). In the September issue of its monthly report Cotton This Month, ICAC says: "Domestic policies in China that are detrimental to cotton mill use are having an effect on world demand similar to the break-up of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s when world mill use was flat around 18.5 million tons for more than a decade." There are also other factors like weak economic growth in major retail markets that make an impact on mill use of cotton.
