Pakistan's prospects for greater market access in the European Union have been weakened by an Indian move. India has said in a formal reply to Pakistan that it will not support the EU request to the the WTO Council of Trade in Goods for granting Pakistan additional trade preferences to help it recover from the destruction caused by recent widespread floods. India's minister for commerce and industry, Anand Sharma, is reported to have said that if the EU wants to help Pakistan with relief assistance it should do so directly and not through trade concessions in derogation of the WTO regime.
