Techtextil, the world's leading international trade fair for technical textiles, offered its 14th edition in Frankfurt from May 24 to 26. Organised by Messe Frankfurt, this event is held biennially in Frankfurt since it debuted in 1986. Over the past almost quarter of a century, Techtextil had grown from 195 exhibitors and 5,900 visitors in 1986 to 1,195 exhibitors and 23,902 visitors in 2009. And both the number of exhibitors and visitors showed further growth this year — 1,207 exhibitors from 50 countries and 24,500 visitors from 96 countries were present at the three-day show. As much as 55% of the visitors were international, compared with 46% in 2009. A survey done by Techtextil showed that 86% of the exhibitors and 81% of the visitors at last month's show viewed the current global economic situation as good — a significant change of view since 2009 when only 57% of exhibitors and 61% of visitors held a positive view of the economy. After Germany, the ten highest represented nations in terms of visitor numbers were Italy, France, The Netherlands, Britain, Belgium, Switzerland, Turkey, Spain, Poland and the USA. Other major visitor nations included India, South Korea, China and Japan.
