Export of Pakistan's cotton fabrics is suffering massive decline while export of garments and home textiles is also slipping, mainly due to unbridled export of raw cotton and cotton yarn to rival countries, says the chairman of the Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA), Khurram Mukhtar. Trade figures show that cotton fabrics export during July-Nov 09, the first five months of current fiscal (July09-June 10), shrunk by almost 36% (345.95 million sq.m), or by US$283.86 million in value, and shipment of garments and home textiles slipped 3.5% from their year-ago levels as cotton yarn export climbed almost 42% in quantity and over 18% in value, and raw cotton exports more than doubled both in quantity and value.
