Textile and garment exports from Sri Lanka during 2008 fetched US$3,468.65 million. It represented 3.9% increase over $3,339.57 million earned in 2007. Export earnings in the month of December, however, had declined 6.3% to $373.3 million from the previous December's $398.47 million.rnTextile sector exports during 2008 accounted for 42.6% of the country's total exports and 56.3% of its industrial exports.rnMeanwhile, the textile sector imports during 2008 amounting to $1,702 million represented 4.3% increase over its year-ago level of $ 1,632million. In the total national imports of all items, the textile sector share in 2008 stood at 12.8%.
