In 2008-09, cotton production in many countries hit the lowest levels in many years, mill use declined globally, price plummeted and trade contracted. A departure from that situation is now in the offing.rnThe global economic downturn seems to have bottomed out; and some economies are showing faint signs of recovery. With that arises a new sense of optimism in the cotton sector. Depending on the world economic growth, cotton mill use could also increase globally. Consumption had already risen slightly in August. That coupled with slightly reduced production dragged stocks-to-use ratio marginally from 51.3% in July to 51% in August.
