Cotton trade is facing a period of downturn. Major consuming countries like China are substantially slashing imports as mill use drop with declining demand for apparel and textile products. And any demand based price rise in the near term is unlikely.rnThe price of cotton as well as cotton trade will experience a major downturn in 2008-09, because of the global economic crisis dampening consumption of apparel and other textile products. Total volume of international trade in this period will plunge by 21 % to 6.6 million tons, says the International Cotton Advisory Committee, in its monthly report of February 2. Trading volume has never been so small since 2001-02.
