Garment exports from Bangladesh last year amounted to US$9.2 billion indicating the increasing recognition across the world of the rising quality of Bangladesh's textile products. The expectation now is that the country's garment exports could exceed $12 billion within the next two years. The ability to maintain such a momentum of growth, says the director of Far East Knitting and Dyeing, M. Bin Quasem, will depend primarily on reducing the time lag between receiving an order and delivering the shipment. He is quite fanatical about bringing innovations to improve quality, productivity and efficient delivery. A short lead time is crucial in a market that moves according to latest fashion trends, which keep changing all the time, he stresses. Far East Knitting and Dyeing located some 50 km from Bangladesh's capital Dhaka and many other similar manufacturing plants along the road from Dhaka leading to it are well equipped. They also pay great attention to shorter lead time.
