China produced 31.6 billion pieces of knitted garments in 2006 some 84% of which coming from five provinces-Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shandong, Jiangsu and Fujian. The lion's share of the national output or 22.74 billion pieces came from medium- and small-scale factories. Larger plants, according to the State Statistical Bureau, contributed just over 8.86 billion pieces.
