Bangladesh Export Processing Zone Authority (BEPZA) has approved 48 companies to invest US$375.19 million with projected creation of 45,118 new jobs in 2006. Among the 48 investors, 19 are 100% foreign, 10 joint ventures and 19 local. A total of 19 countries, including South Korea, Japan, China, Britain, the US, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Canada, India and Pakistan are setting up units in the EPZs. Earlier, in the second half of 2006, 31 applications for a total of US$333.72 million were approved for EPZ projects. Ten of them were for Adamjee EPZ, six for Karnaphuli EPZ, six for Mongla EPZ, five for Comilla EPZ, two for Dhaka EPZ, and one each for Chittagong EPZ and Ishurdi EPZ.
