An investigation of the characteristics of surface deposits on wool fibres dyed with metal-complex dyes, paper presented to the Textile Institute Annual World Conference, March 2005. Wool belongs to the class of natural proteins known as keratins consisting of long polypeptide chains composed of 18 amino acids. The nature of the side chains and therefore the amino acid content of wool defines its chemistry. Wool is produced in the fibre follicle in the skin of the sheep and has a very complex physical structure.
