The European Commission has pre-sented its proposal for termination of textile quotas from 2005, as required by the WTO Agreement on Textiles and Clothing, to the Council of Member States. The proposal amends Regulations No. 3030/93 and No. 3285/94 as regards the EU's common rules for imports of certain textiles from third countries. The most important modification to the current rules is of course the removal of quotas for imports of textile and clothing products as of January 1, 2005. Imports of these products originating in the Chinese Mainland or in any other WTO Member will not now encounter quantitative restrictions when entering into the EU market.
