Moshuin Ayub Mirza, Pakistani Entrepreneur of the Year 2004, who has invested in a clothing factory in Sri Lanka, says the phasing out of MFA should not be perceived as a threat to South Asian countries but as an opportunity. Any industrialist who thinks otherwise could be described, he says, as paranoid. Chairman of Pakistan's Joe Fashion Export Ltd, who was voted Entrepreneur of the Year by the Pakistani Chamber of Commerce, Mirza is a top apparel and textile exporter who owns ZM Vertiko Ltd in Sri Lanka. He also has operations in France, Spain, Sharjah, UAE and Pakistan. Mirza believes that if apparel firms can tap the non-traditional markets such as Morocco, Tunisia and Spain, they can seize new opportunities. South Asian quality is good, and greater success can be achieved if the region focuses on new fashion, product development, higher productivity and quick turnaround of orders.
