London is known as home to a multicultural population. The city's Fashion Week, held twice a year, reflects London's characteristic as a melting pot of design ideas from a wide range of sources - from its English heritage, to the various West and East European cultures, Asia, the Americas and Africa. The recent event for Autumn/Winter 2005, held on February 13-17, presented an eclectic mix of new and established names constituting a creative array of designers. However London Fashion Week has not yet got a permanent venue it can call home. Previously LFW occupied the grounds of the Natural History Museum in Knightsbridge. In the last two seasons, LFW took place at the Duke of York's Headquarters on King's Road, but this time, planning permissions were not granted in time, and LFW was moved from Chelsea to Battersea Park, just south of the Thames, and less than a mile from the previous venue. The British Fashion Council provided transport links to major underground train stations, and tents gave shelter from the gusty winter winds, but the visitors were not impressed.
