Supachai Panitchpakdi, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, has sought to play down the increasingly vocal US-China tension over China's textile exports, and says that the Doha Round of global trade talks launched in 2001 could still be completed this year. "We shouldn't take it out of proportion", he told a conference of Asian-Pacific businesspeople in Hong Kong on June 13. "At the moment I don't see any spillover into our negotiation agenda". Nonetheless he expressed disappointment at the pace of progress of some parts of the Doha negotiations.
