摘要

A flood of cheap products from China lowing the elimination of quotas earlier this year is having an adverse effect on the textile industries of many countries, with those of several African nations being especially hard hit. In an effort to ease the pressure on Taiwanese textile firms operating in Africa, Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that it will send a delegation of experts to the region to advise textile makers on methods to counter the Chinese threat. The panel of experts, selected by MOFA, the Bureau of Foreign Trade and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council, will visit Taiwan-owned textile firms operating in Malawi, Lesotho, Swaziland and South Africa in early July. The MOFA spokesman did not say whether or not the visiting experts would also meet with local textile producers, though he did point out that textile makers in Africa are under more pressure from Chinese exports than are those in many other areas because they rely on more primitive technologies.
