London Fashion Week held on Feb-ruary 14-19 closed with a record numbers of visitors through its doors, demonstrating its importance on the international fashion calendar. Over 5,000 visitors from Britain and around the world were registered. For the first time there were over 1,000 overseas buyers at the show, up 20% on the last season. Stuart Rose, Chairman of the British Fashion Council said, "London is not New York, Paris or Milan. It is different, and it is that very difference we should be celebrating. We are very good at what is new, and that is our particular and individual strength." Signs of a good show appeared days before the start of the fashion week, when the BFC announced that the concurrent London Designers' Exhibition was a sell-out, with a record number of designers taking stands to present their autumn/winter 2004/05 collections. The exhibition was held in the Duke of York's Square in fashionable Chelsea.
