In less than nine months the Agreement on Textiles & Clothing will be performed in full, and all the restrictions maintained under the Agreement will be eliminated. After almost four decades, trade in textile and clothing products will be reintegrated into the mainstream of the general rules and disciplines embodied in the multilateral trading system. In light of this, while not losing sight of issues that might still come up in the implementation of the ATC, it is equally appropriate to reflect on the possible trade policy challenges of the post-ATC period and, in this context, to keep also in mind aspects that are being addressed in the ongoing negotiations of the Doha Round.
