Fresh from a visit to the newly expanded office in China, James Arthurs, President of Gerber, explained the strategy of Gerber Technology, a business unit of the US$517m Gerber Scientific Inc., and noted how developments in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Cambodia and Vietnam had affected Gerber's planning. Lower cost versions of the Accu-mark AE product were, he said, developed for the Chinese market but had also been offered worldwide. The products were thus available in the US and EU, but the focus of marketing efforts was the developing countries, and hardware came with a library of patterns so that companies did not need to start from the beginning.
