Southeast Asian nations should coop-erate more closely within the framework of the ASEAN Federation of Textile Industries, so Bui Xuan Khu, Deputy Minister of Industry, told the 18th plenary session of the AFTEX. Each AFTEX member country exporting garments and textiles would face fierce competition from rivals with developed garment and textile industries, such as China and India, as well as "new protectionism in the forms of technical barriers, environmental hygiene requirements and social responsibility."
